Picrite appears Rough and Shiny and Variolite appears Dull and Soft. The luster of Picrite is subvitreous to dull while that of Variolite is not available. Picrite is available in black, brown, colourless, green, grey, pink, white, yellow colors whereas Variolite is available in black, brown, light to dark grey colors. The commercial uses of Picrite are as a feed additive for livestock, as armour rock for sea walls, metallurgical flux, pottery, source of magnesia (mgo) and that of Variolite are cemetery markers, creating artwork.
