Vogesite and Tachylite

Tachylite and Vogesite

Definition

Definition
Vogesite is a porphyritic alkaline igneous rock and is a variety of Lamprophyre which is dominated by essential amphibole, usually hornblende, and potassic feldspar
Tachylite is a vitreous form of basaltic volcanic glass. This glass is formed naturally by the rapid cooling of molten basalt

Formation

Formation
Vogesite formation takes place deep beneath the Earth’s surface at around 150 to 450 kilometres, and are erupted rapidly and violently.
Tachylite is a fine-grained, hard rock which is a type of metasomatite, essentially altered basalt. It forms with or without crystallization, either below the surface as intrusive rocks or on the surface as extrusive rocks.

All about Vogesite and Tachylite Properties

Know all about Vogesite and Tachylite properties here. All properties of rocks are important as they define the type of rock and its application. Vogesite and Tachylite belong to Igneous Rocks.Texture of Vogesite is Porphyritic whereas that of Tachylite is Vitreous. Vogesite appears Dull, Banded and Foilated and Tachylite appears Glassy. The luster of Vogesite is subvitreous to dull while that of Tachylite is resinous. Vogesite is available in black, bluish - grey, brown, dark greenish - grey, green, grey colors whereas Tachylite is available in black, dark brown colors. The commercial uses of Vogesite are an oil and gas reservoir, as a feed additive for livestock, gemstone, metallurgical flux, production of lime, soil conditioner, source of magnesia (mgo) and that of Tachylite are cemetery markers, creating artwork.
