Hardness and Strength of Chert

The streak of Chert is white whereas its fracture is uneven, splintery or conchoidal. Luster of Chert is the interaction of light with the surface of Chert. Luster of Chert is waxy and dull. Chert cleavage is non-existent. The specific gravity of Chert is 2.5-2.8. Chert is translucent to opaque in nature whereas its toughness is 1.5.
