5 Formation
5.1 Formation
Granodiorite is an intrusive igneous rock which is very hard, crystalline and is visibly homogeneous in texture and forms by melting of continental rocks.
Aplites belong to intrusive igneous rocks which are mostly quart and alkali feldspar and are formed from residual eutectic granitic liquids and represent the final crystallization products of magma.

Granodiorite vs Aplite Information

Earth’s outer layer is covered by rocks and these rocks have different physical and chemical properties. As two rocks are not same, it’s fun to compare them. You can also know more about Granodiorite and Aplite Reserves. Granodiorite is a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock containing quartz and plagioclase, and which has composition in between granite and diorite. Aplite is a fine-grained granite composed mainly of feldspar and quartz. These rocks are composed of many distinct minerals. The process of formation of rocks is different for various rocks. Rocks are quarried from many years for various purposes. You can check out Granodiorite vs Aplite information and Granodiorite vs Aplite characteristics in the upcoming sections.

Granodiorite vs Aplite Characteristics

Though some rocks look identical, they have certain characteristics which distinguish them from others. Characteristics of rocks include texture, appearance, color, fracture, streak, hardness etc. Granodiorite vs Aplite characteristics assist us to distinguish and recognize rocks. Also you can check about Properties of Granodiorite and Properties of Aplite. Learn more about Granodiorite vs Aplite in the next section. The composition of Granodiorite and Aplite consists of mineral content and compound content. The mineral content of Granodiorite includes Amphibole, Biotite, Feldspar, Hornblade, Micas, Muscovite or Illite, Plagioclase, Pyroxene, Quartz and mineral content of Aplite includes Amphibole, Biotite, Feldspar, Hornblade, Micas, Muscovite or Illite, Plagioclase, Pyroxene, Quartz. You can also check out the list of all Igneous Rocks. When we have to compare Granodiorite vs Aplite, the texture, color and appearance plays an important role in determining the type of rock. Granodiorite is available in black, grey, orange, pink, white colors whereas, Aplite is available in black, grey, orange, pink, white colors. Appearance of Granodiorite is Veined or Pebbled and that of Aplite is Veined or Pebbled. Properties of rock is another aspect for Granodiorite vs Aplite. The hardness of Granodiorite is 6 and that of Aplite is 6.5. The types of Granodiorite are Not Available whereas types of Aplite are Not Available. Streak of rock is the color of powder produced when it is dragged across an unweathered surface. The streak of Granodiorite and Aplite is white. The specific heat capacity of Granodiorite is 0.79 kJ/Kg K and that of Aplite is 0.79 kJ/Kg K. Depending on the properties like hardness, toughness, specific heat capacity, porosity etc., rocks are resistant to heat, wear, impact, etc.Granodiorite is heat resistant, wear resistant whereas Aplite is heat resistant, wear resistant.
